I could just tell something was bothering him... so I asked him about it, and he told me that all the temps at his job are going to be laid off as of January 1st. (this means this is his last week, because of Christmas/New Years vacation.. which is unpaid anyway)

I was hoping to apply for a part-time job at H&R Block starting in January, but since I don't know what's going to happen with Vince's job situation and I don't know what kind of schedule he'll have when he does get a job, I can't really start a new job like that. I just hope I don't get all stressed out like I did last time he was unemployed...

Guess I just had to vent. People are decorating their houses and buying gifts and singing Christmas songs because December 25th is almost here. I'm sure you've already received a few Christmas cards from family and friends, maybe even some gifts already. This is also that time of the year when a few Christians feel the need to point out the blasphemousness of the whole Christmas holiday.

I just read in an email that "Christmas" means "the death of Christ", so in essence, by celebrating Christmas you are celebrating the death of Christ, making it something light and cheerful when it isn't something to be joked about. Also, these emails include information about the pagan origins of the Christmas tree, the holly, mistletoe, etc. Basically, if you participate in these things, you're participating in "witchcraft", according to these emails.

Now I'm not really big into the whole crazy Christmas thing. I just enjoy giving gifts and spending time with family and having a nice Christmas dinner. I think the decorations are beautiful and I don't think of the goddess Diana's menstrual cycle when I look at holly (seriously, that's what the ancient meaning of it is), or the reproductive substance (you know what I mean) of the "sun god" when I see mistletoe. I don't put them up, but I'm not going to preach at someone who does. I can understand the people that don't put up Christmas trees because of Jeremiah 10, though I don't believe that a Christmas tree fits into Jeremiah 10 unless you're worshipping it (and I don't feel comfortable with the song "O Christmas Tree" for that reason).

But seriously, there are two times of the year when lost religious people will come to church and talk about Christ. Easter and Christmas. Both holidays can be celebrated in a pagan way or a Christian way.

So... I think we should have fun this Christmas. Decorate your house if you feel like it, make some gingerbread cookies, wrap some gifts for your family with pretty wrapping paper and bows, and make sure to glorify God that day (as with any day). We can be thankful for the religious freedoms that we still have, and be thankful for all the blessings God has given us in 2008.

It's up to you. You can skip this holiday and write it off as "witchcraft", or you can make it a special God-honoring time with your family. What do you think? :)

Update time!

Yeah, I'm finally updating my blog again! :)

So December has been quite a busy month. I've been helping my mother-in-law with her candy business occasionally, and I've been doing a lot of house-work, plus Vince's job has caused our schedule to get all wacky so I'm hardly online at the time when all of my friends are on... so I spend less time talking to friends online and more time doing other things.

So, to make up for the lack of social interaction online, we're actually planning to have real life friends over at our house more often! Last night we had all of Vince's siblings over with a few other friends for supper. We made hamburgers and homemade french fries and then watched movies, and it was so much fun! Earlier in the day, Jillian and Audrey (my sister-in-laws) helped me clean and re-organize my whole kitchen. They just loved doing it. It was nice waking up this morning to a spotless kitchen. :-)

In the blog world, I have been reading everyone's blogs, I just haven't always kept up on commenting on them. Also, Vince has been updating his Word of a King blog once in a while with some pretty good stuff. I think you'll like it. :-)

We're also planning a trip to Missouri for Christmas this year. That just happened to me! lol

I think I started the group AV1611 Bible Believers back in February 2007 (that's when the earliest wall post is), and then I just saw the link to the group through another group I'm on, and I was just going to see if it was active... and see who created it (remember, I forgot it was me). So you can imagine how funny it was when I saw my name as the "creator".... hehehe.

In other funny news: Someone thought I was Vince's little sister yesterday (because I supposedly don't look old enough to be his wife). It's the hatred that some Christians have toward another brother in Christ.

I just got back from reading a thread on a forum (many of you know which one I'm talking about, so I won't mention names). The opening post was valid for discussion, and states the information without getting too personally involved. Sure, the poster was biased, but who isn't? I do not fault him for that. I was perfectly find with reading that post. That isn't the problem I wanted to discuss.

As I read further along the thread, some people posted some things that weren't just biased, they were completely hateful. It makes me sick to see anyone say anything so vicious. I just can't handle it. I have the sudden urge to read my Bible and clear this filth out of my head. This is worse than when I saw the comments vile atheists were making on a site where they mock Christians. This is Christians hating a fellow brother in Christ (though they want to believe he's unsaved; therefore, they want him to go to Hell... isn't that sick?).

Please, anyone who reads this blog, please post something positive and encouraging today. I need to see some Christians say something positive, for a change. I'm sick and tired of hate-filled Christians. :(

Sincerely,

Test post for signature thingy

:-)

Cutest little teddy bear!

I'm not telling who it belongs to... but here's a picture of it! I get jealous when I see a pregnant woman (whether in pics or real life), and I find it irresistible to read blogs written by women who have recently had babies.

The problem is... we aren't going to have any babies yet because of SO many reasons! Of course, the main one is that Vince doesn't have a full-time job yet, so we can't afford to feed a baby if we can barely afford to feed ourselves. It's hard being patient right now. It's really, really hard.

So I figured out the solution. The baby fever needs to stop. Does anyone have any experience with "getting over" baby fever?? We know Chuck Baldwin won't win, but we'd rather vote for him than McCain.

As much as I liked Sarah Palin when she first came on the scene, she really is just another politician. She has to help McCain's campaign, so she has to compromise on several issues to do so. We don't need politicians in the White House, we need men that will uphold our Constitution and do what's right.

So, that's my 2 cents. :-)

Sick and tired of third-party bashers

So, here goes my first real rant on this blog.... :-)

I'm seriously tired of people being RUDE to those who are voting third-party. As of right now, I'm not voting third-party as far as I know... because my husband is still on the "voting for McCain to keep Obama out" side, and I agree with him on that. If he ever changes his mind to vote for Chuck Baldwin, I'll agree with him on that, too. I'm following my husband and I'm going to vote for whoever he votes for. That isn't what this blog is about though...

I have several close friends who are voting for Chuck Baldwin, and you know what? I'm glad that they are! We need those third-party voters to keep the freedom of voting third-party alive! I'm really really sick of CHRISTIANS telling third-party voters that they're wrong for voting based on principle, and voting for what their conscience tells them is right. What has America come to, when the Christians care more about the government taking care of them than having a righteous nation?

You know what? I think America deserves to have Obama as president. He represents the unrighteousness of this nation better than anyone else. Also, since he would oppress this nation... maybe God's people will actually learn to PRAY, instead of sitting in front of their TVs whining about what their government is doing wrong.

Wow... I didn't mean to start another rant about America. :-P

Well anyway, that's all I've got to say for now. I could keep going on, but I'd get too much "in the flesh" and that wouldn't be pretty. :-)

Tagged!

I've been tagged by Rachel to list 6 random things about myself.

Rules:
1. That's exactly what I'm dealing with right now.

A few months ago, it seemed horrible that my beautiful 2006 Chevy Cobalt got totaled. I got to a point where I wondered if God was taking it away from me because I didn't deserve it, or something like that. I wasn't blaming God, I was just wondering if it was some kind of "discipline" or whatever. Well, now it's obvious that He allowed it to happen for a good reason.

I can't explain the reasons here, but the reason it's a good thing the car was totaled is because I had gap insurance to take care of the loan. It's going to be cleared up as if it never existed, except for the part where I made payments faithfully... that'll still look good on my credit. If the car wouldn't have been totaled, my credit could have been ruined real soon. That would have been just another burden for us to deal with...but the Lord protected us from it.

He is always so good to take care of us. :-)

Letting off steam..

Doesn't it make you so angry when people attack your husband? Oh it makes me so mad... lol. There are people that left our church and caused division (and the people they're following) that are accusing Vince of being the bad guy. They call him a wimp (they say he does everything his wife tells him to do), they say he doesn't know what a Biblical pastor is (because they think our pastors are wicked and ungodly), they say he plays video games all day and listens to rock music (he does neither!), and the list goes on. It just makes me so mad. They also say he shouldn't be allowed on Youtube because they think our pastors told him not to, which is not true. Oh, and the best part is... they say things like "you need prayer" or "you need to get right with God" or "REPENT!!!!!!!!", as if they're some kind of authority. Yeah, sure, whatever.

On the other side, I've got family members that say my husband is too controlling (because he's protecting me from the bad things they say about me). Of course, I haven't read those emails because Vince doesn't want me to see them. I don't want to read them, either. It'll hurt too much.

Why do people have to be so mean? I made a list before I went, planning some meals for the week. Then, I checked the ads online for a couple different stores in town (we have Kroger and Marsh. I won't buy meat at this Kroger though... Vince has been in their back room and told me not to ever buy meat there). Anyhow... I got most of my non-perishable foods at Kroger since a lot of them were on sale, and then I stopped at a store owned by German Baptists that sells spices in bulk for a really good price, and I got some chili powder for the chili I was making last night. Then I went to Marsh and got most of the stuff on sale.

I got a lot of food for less than $50. It was so awesome!

Surprise birthday party!

So... a few days ago, Vince started asking me what I want for my birthday. I hate telling people what to get me, because it just ruins the surprise, and I'm just going to tell them not to give me anything because I don't like making people spend money on me... so I just said "I don't know." He's been asking me what I want for my birthday like every day, and all along I've just been thinking "I just want someone to surprise me!!!".

Last night we went to a surprise birthday party for another girl (she's exactly one day older than me... her birthday is Tuesday and mine is Wednesday... we're the same age). I was secretly a little jealous because no one had ever surprised me with a party before. Whenever my mom tried to plan a surprise party, I always caught her talking to someone on the phone about it so I never got surprised. So... that was my one birthday wish - to have a surprise party. (I don't care if I don't get gifts or a cake or any of that... that's more fun when you're a kid anyway... hehe)

Anyhow... we'd been planning all this week to go to Vince's parents house tonight, just to hang out. We do that almost every week, so it's not a bit unusual. When we got there, Jillian and Audrey (Vince's sisters) ran outside to say hi to us. That happens every time, too, so I didn't suspect anything. I had no clue that it was a birthday party until everyone jumped out of hiding (when we walked in the door) and started singing "Happy Birthday". It was the most awesome surprise birthday party ever! Vince's mom made a homemade ice cream cake (it was SO good!!!) and I got a few gifts... but most of the time we were just playing a card game and then practicing a song that us young people (17-20 yr olds) are gonna sing in church someday.

So... Vince did it. He got me exactly what I wanted for my birthday, and I never even told him. (Seriously, how do you tell someone you want a surprise? That would pretty much ruin it... hehe)

He's such an awesome husband. =)

Sunday afternoon lunch

God is so good!

Today after church, we went out to eat at the Mexican restaurant down the street. We go there pretty often, but I was planning to cook something this afternoon for lunch and Vince knew that, so I thought it was pretty random that he said we're going to eat out instead. (it didn't bother me... less dishes, and I can cook the meal another day!)

We got to the restaurant, ordered our food, and a guy from church was there so he ate with us. The waiter came over to our table while we were eating, and handed us a folded napkin that had something written in it, and he said something in Spanish, assuming Vince understood what he meant. (Vince usually talks to the waiters in Spanish, just to practice) The napkin was from some people in another booth, and it had a few words and said something like "God Bless You" underlined, and then a couple Scripture references and the name of the church they're from. It was some "Full Gospel Church" or whatever... you know, some church that we wouldn't agree with on doctrine, but they probably heard us talking about church and guessed that we were Christians. We went back to eating, and after we finished we were still talking and fellowshipping for a while... waiting for the waiter to bring the check.

After we'd been sitting there a little while... Vince finally stopped the waiter and asked if he could bring the check so we could pay for our food. The waiter said "Oh, those people paid for it... that's what I told you earlier". Of course, we were all totally surprised! Isn't it amazing how God provides for little things like that?? Wow... :-)

Last Night

Jack Patterson came to preach at our church. The cars are reasonably priced and they have everything we're looking for. We looked at both the 2008 Accent and a used 2007 Elantra. The bank was closed by the time we sat down with them to talk about financing, so they had to let us go home and we'll probably be coming back today.

We both really like the Elantra, but at their markup price, it's out of our price range. If they can take a couple thousand off the price (bring it down to Kelley Blue Book value, or lower... I've done my research!), it might work for us. If we have to get the Accent, I'll still be happy. The 2008 Accent they had is a dark sapphire blue... it's a beautiful car. The Elantra is shiny white, like a Macbook. :-) hehe (the cool thing about the Elantra is how roomy it feels... Vince is tall, so he needs leg room!)

We'll just have to see what happens... we might be driving a new car today!

Trials

I've noticed something. The more serious we (my husband and I) get about being missionaries, the more trials we go through. I'm starting to get used to bad things happening... just knowing the Lord is going to get us through it somehow, but wondering how He's going to do it this time.

Last Tuesday, the car accident happened. The insurance is going to take care of it and everything.. so that trial is basically over, except for the fact that we still need to look for another car (we're driving a rental right now). Now, the next trial is health problems... which is easy to take care of, but costs money. We don't have the best insurance coverage because Vince is technically self-employed until he finds another job.

What's crazy is, all of this is happening ever since we started planning a trip to Chile for February. We really want to go, and the missionaries we'll be working with (The Robinsons) really need us to come. If everything works out, we'll be staying there for 1-2 months. I was a little nervous about the idea at first, but I'm getting excited about it more and more each day.

It's so obvious that the devil doesn't want us to go there. It's like he's trying to discourage us, but I know he can only do as much as the Lord allows him to do. Some of this may be the Lord just testing us to see how much we trust Him. Either way, it just proves that if you're going to be a missionary, you're going to face trials. Somehow, that doesn't scare me though. I'm looking forward to seeing what blessings come out of enduring all of these trials. If nothing else, it's a testimony to other people. It shows that God really does give His children grace to endure trials. :-)

The Lord is so good...

He kept us from getting killed tonight.

Here's what happened. Please pray that everything works out and that the Lord can provide another car for us.

Too long...

Wow, it's been a whole month since I last posted!! Yikes!

It's been pretty busy around here. I think my main reason for not blogging as much as I used to is because I just don't think the same way anymore. I'm so much more focused on married life, and not so interested in the internet. It's just a hobby now, less important than it was before.

Anyhow, I'm actually in a blogging mood tonight, so I guess that's a good thing! We just got back from Richmond, IN for a shopping trip. We always do our major grocery shopping at Meijer. In fact, we'd rather drive 15 miles away to get there instead of going down the street to Walmart. (in case you didn't know, we DON'T shop at Walmart!)

I'm really excited right now... because I'm trying to plan what colors I want to paint different rooms in this apartment. Right now I've got the computer room figured out. If things go the way I'm planning, it'll be totally black and white. I want to paint the walls white and the trim black. We've already got some furniture that matches that decor, so it won't be too expensive. Plus, I'm really getting good at finding neat things at garage sales and the thrift store! I'm also going to get black frames and get some of our photos printed in black and white, just to add more personality to the room.

Oh, and speaking of the rooms in our house... my mother-in-law found a really cute clock at the thrift store that matches the coffee theme in my kitchen! We were there during the "50% off week" sale, and the clock was marked at $1.50 so I got it for 75 cents!!!!! It just needed a AA battery and it works great... and looks perfect in my kitchen!

So that's my blog for tonight.... I'll try to keep posting more often. I can't make any promises though! :-)

Our Lovely Home

My mother-in-law came over yesterday and spent several hours helping me transform this apartment from a cluttered mess to a cozy home. :-)

I took a few pictures. It didn't look like it would be possible, with all the bills and everything that we have... but I haven't had time to look for a job because I've been so busy with housework, and Vince has just been working and paying the bills. We didn't even notice till recently that we're totally making it on one income, so far. We don't have a lot of extra money to splurge on "wants"...but the Lord is taking care of our needs, and that's what matters. Our apartment doesn't look picture perfect, the furniture doesn't all match and it's kinda plain, but it's our home and I love it.

So that's my short blog for today. Maybe I'll ramble later. :-) hehe

Cooking...

Tonight I made supper on my own for the first time... without any help at all. Every other time I've cooked something, I've had help from someone (usually my husband... he's more experienced in cooking than I am!!). Tonight was different, though. I made pork chops all on my own. I never realized how much joy there was in cooking until my husband told me how delicious it was. The best part is, he wasn't just trying to make me feel good about it... I had actually cooked a good meal (I thought it tasted good too.... lol).

The thing I hate about cooking is all the dishes I have to do afterwards. Then I get happy when all the dishes are clean and my kitchen looks neat and tidy. :-)

I still totally love being married!! :-)

Random thoughts

I don't feel like keeping this blog on one topic today. Yesterday we had a big rainstorm and now we're having sewer problems... so while it gets fixed, I can't do laundry or dishes or anything that uses a lot of water.

Last night we had a missionary at church. He and his wife are going to be working in Micronesia (a group of islands between Australia and Hawaii). He told a story about an evangelist that heard about how few missionaries are in Micronesia, and this evangelist began to pray that a missionary would go to a specific island. He would tell people about it in every church he went to. One time he was preaching in a church and mentioned this island, and a man came up to him and said "My wife and I felt God was calling us to that island", but then he continued and said "but we found out they have no electricity and no running water so we changed our minds about going." This would be a totally sad story, if it wasn't for the fact that God called someone else to the same mission field, because of that man's refusal to go. It just shows that God's will is going to be done... but we can miss out on it if we don't let ourselves be available to do whatever God wants us to do. Can you imagine the way that man will feel someday when he finds out how much God used the other missionary and what he missed out on? Oh how I don't want to miss out on God's blessings like that!

Just had to let that out. :-) It really touched my heart last night.

The Lord continues to provide!

He's just so good to us! Last night, a lady at church told us that she knows someone who is giving away a stove/oven. (in case you didn't know, we don't have one right now) We can pick it up this afternoon! I'm so excited... I'll finally be able to cook normal meals!

Now the next thing I'm hoping for is a stackable washer/dryer. Our laundry area is in the bathroom, which is already small. We just have a washer in there. If we tried to put a dryer in there, it would block one of the bathroom doors.

I'm just gonna keep checking Craigslist.... you never know what could show up on there! :-)

Dreams (that glorify God) Come True!

I'm really seeing God do some wonderful things in my life... and I just wish I could tell everyone about it but I can't seem to find the right words to express it!

Living here in Ohio with my husband is like a dream for me. Having the opportunities that we have to serve in our church is way more than I could've ever asked for. I mean, it's something I used to daydream about when I was younger. I always wanted to work with kids someday, to have a husband with leadership ability, and to go to a church that teaches the Bible the right way and a church family that loves each other like a real family. Now the Lord has given me ALL of that... even though I don't deserve a bit of it! Amazing God, isn't He???

Almost a month already...

And I still love being married!!!

Marrying Vince was the best decision I ever made, outside of my salvation. I'm completely in love with him... and it just gets better the more I'm with him. Before the wedding, it was hard to explain to people that I knew it was going to work out... because people have this idea that if you meet someone online, get married young, or marry someone you've only spent a little time with, it won't work out. I did all three, and it worked out perfectly!!

Everything has just been so perfect. The wedding was better than I could've dreamed of. The church here is like a second family. My in-laws are totally sweet to me. Vince and I have discovered we have even more in common than we could've known before we were married... and everything is just so wonderful.
